Special Features
Located on the Bay of Fundy in Canada, the Five Islands area is known for the highest tide on earth, fluctuating anywhere from 40 to 60 feet everyday. Due to the large tide changes, the Hill Hiker® lift system had to be built with high grade stainless steel to withstand being fully submerged in salt water. People who stay on the Island are driven over in a boat at high tide and get on to the elevator from the boat. This taxi boat was fitted with a remote control that communicates with the Hill Hiker® tram wireless system.
Another unique feature of this project is that the entire Hill Hiker® elevator system can be powered by solar energy. The Solar power is gathered and stored in several banks of deep cycle marine batteries at the top of the hill. Due to the remoteness of the project this was a great power solution.
