Long Live the Inclined Lift

By July 7, 2016December 27th, 2021Blog

Inclined lifts can last a long time. The first, known as the Reisszug funicular, still carries passengers up and down a hill 500 years after its installation. Though modern inclined lifts have more components, they can still last a long time. Here are a few tips to keep your inclined lift going for years to come.

Routine Inclined Lift Checks

Each year, an inclined lift should receive a little maintenance. A few of the most important things to check include bolt torques, cables, and while you’re at it, take some time to test the controls and the safety mechanisms. To ensure your inclined lift meets the necessary requirements, consult a technician.

Lubricant

Pulleys and cables need lubricant or they will cause friction. Over time, this friction will gradually wear down the integrity of your system. That’s why we recommend you keep your inclined lift sufficiently lubed.

Batteries

If the wireless controls on your inclined lift don’t work, the batteries are most likely the culprit. There is a simple test you can do to prevent this unfortunate situation. Each year, we recommend using a battery tester to check the strength of your inclined lift’s battery.

Inclined Lifts In Winter

Traveling anywhere in winter is harder, especially when it comes to hills. Though inclined lifts are designed to climb slopes in all weather conditions, snow and ice can make the trip more difficult. Keep excess snow and ice out of the rails and track. Unfortunately, they can’t double up as snow plows.

Storm Damage

Hill Hiker® Hillside Lift Systems are built to be tough. Still even the strongest can suffer damage from heavy storms. If a fallen tree, harsh winds or lightning hits your system, call for assistance. An experienced technician will be able to repair your inclined lift for use.

Our team will not only ensure your system runs safely again after storm damage, but we can also collaborate with your insurance company to get your inclined lift fixed and covered.

Inclined Lift Lifespan

Modern inclined lifts can last a long time.  Hill Hiker®’s first installed lift is still running, even after 19 years of Minnesota winters. The key to longevity is simple routine maintenance checks.
