Celebrating Innovation and Persistence

In a monumental achievement, Hill Hiker, Inc. secured the prestigious Elevator World’s Project of the Year Award for the second consecutive year, solidifying its pioneering status in the industry. The award-winning project, “KSA Expo 2020 Pavilion,” encapsulates an extraordinary journey of innovation and resilience.

Crafting Excellence Amidst Unconventionality

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s visionary pavilion at Expo 2020 challenged the norms of architectural design. Instead of the conventional vertical structure, it emerged as a cantilevered marvel rising six stories at a daring 24-degree angle. Traditional elevators were impractical, requiring a groundbreaking solution. Hill Hiker, Inc. stepped in to design and install two custom-inclined elevators, transforming an architectural challenge into an unparalleled opportunity.

Confronting Challenges with Creativity

Space limitations posed formidable hurdles, demanding inventive solutions. The narrow hoistways, a mere 5′ 7″ wide, required Hill Hiker, Inc. to engineer end-loading inclined elevator cars. These cars integrated architectural glass and minimal framing to seamlessly merge with the pavilion’s exhibit, ensuring an uninterrupted experience for visitors.

Redefining Norms, Redesigning Systems

Navigating strict safety codes and regulations was another frontier. The requirement for hardwired power clashed with the needs of inclined elevators, prompting Hill Hiker, Inc. to innovate with a reel system interfacing with custom-built rollers—solving the friction dilemma and ensuring compliance.

Triumph Amidst Unforeseen Adversities

Amidst the unparalleled challenges, Hill Hiker, Inc. faced an unforeseen adversary—the global pandemic. As the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted global operations, the team showed remarkable adaptability, maneuvering installations via remote communications and navigating travel restrictions with unwavering determination.

The Climax of Innovation: Recognition and Triumph

Despite the turbulence, the KSA Pavilion project was completed in August 2021, marking a triumph. TUV’s thorough inspection under the stringent ASME Code validated the elevators’ safety and functionality. The KSA Pavilion’s two inclined elevators facilitated the visit of over 4.6 million guests and earned acclaim, bagging the UAE Innovation Award for “Best Innovation that Drives Mobility.”

A Salute to Collaboration and Ingenuity

This recognition isn’t just a testament to Hill Hiker, Inc.’s expertise but a celebration of collaborative effort. The synergy between Hill Hiker, VAA, TK Elevator, and others surmounted challenges, paving the way for an exceptional feat in the realm of inclined elevators.

Elevating Standards, Defying Limits

Hill Hiker, Inc.’s consecutive win of Elevator World’s Project of the Year Award for “KSA Expo 2020 Pavilion” is a testament to their unwavering commitment to innovation, resilience, and excellence. This remarkable journey of overcoming adversity and redefining possibilities sets a new benchmark in the realm of elevator engineering.

The legacy of this project extends beyond recognition; it’s a tribute to human ingenuity, perseverance, and the spirit that defies limitations. Hill Hiker, Inc.’s triumph inspires, echoing the belief that any challenge can be transformed into an opportunity for greatness with determination and innovation.
